Alan Finemore and Kate Luff

Alan and Kate had played with the band for a year, when they stepped in to share the musical director role, in the event of our previous musical director, Mike West, having to leave very suddenly. Mike did great work throughout the previous year to raise the standard of playing in a short space of time after the band resumed rehearsals after the pandemic, and both Alan and Kate aim to continue that work and bring the band to even greater heights.
Alan, a musician of 50 years' experience, was originally a fine Euphonium player, playing with all levels of bands around the country up to Championship class. He then moved to Cornet and Flugelhorn, cultivating a unique and mellifluous sound. He is particularly passionate about band training and bringing out the best in players, particularly those who suffer with lack of confidence, or limited formal music teaching, and uses all his cumulative experience to inspire others to realise their own musical potential.
Kate has played Euphonium and other lower brass for 22 years in bands all over the country, as well as singing and pursuing a range of other artistic endeavours. She is particularly passionate about local banding and the communities it represents, brings together, and brings music to, as well as sharing Alan's enthusiasm for helping other players.
